The History of Catalina Marketing
Created in 1983 by Mike O'Brien, Brian Yeatman, Tom Mindrum, Mike Scroggie and George Off, Catalina Marketing Corporation was founded on the belief that there is a more effective and efficient way to access and influence shoppers than television, radio and freestanding inserts. They believed that communications informed by actual shopper insights would be the most effective approach; the problem was how to deliver individualized communications efficiently.
The groundbreaking idea, which eventually became the Catalina Marketing Network®, used scanner-based technology to retrieve and respond to shoppers. Nearly 25 years later, Catalina Marketing continues to be a pioneer in shopper-driven marketing solutions.
